Taiwan Trip Day Three: Wulai

The third day of our trip was all about Wulai and our guide named Jackie. Wulai was a small tourist site in the mountains consisting of two beautiful hotels, a tram, hiking paths, and hot springs. Mr. Yeh and Alex had to take another family to pick up their baby so we had the pleasure of meeting Jackie. Jackie worked at the Hyatt hotel as one of the managers but helped Mr. Yeh out on his off days. Jackie was HILARIOUS. He loved to talk about his two girlfriends (who did not know about each other) and all the juggling he had to do to maintain his relationships. He was also kind, courteous, and very helpful. We took the tram up to the hiking trails, ate a wonderful lunch at the hotel, and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. Lunch consisted of a whole chicken, mini shrimp (shell and heads on), beef, rice, beer, and tea. I definitely enjoyed the cuisine...Kyle had to expand his palate a little:). We then took the tram down to the other hotel and watched a show performed at the local theater. This was a live performance about the history behind Wulai and its tribal roots. By the end of the show, we were all up on stage (pulled up) to help complete the final act. To summarize, Kyle was dressed up as a tribal groom and married off to one of the characters. It was so funny (for me), and Kyle was a good sport. During our time in Wulai, Jackie offered to take us to his Uncle's tea shop to buy some presents for our family. This was one of my absolute favorite things we did during the trip. His Uncle stayed open late and taught us the art of brewing tea correctly. The shop was beautiful and over 100 years old. There was a shrine to their ancestors in the back that was very important to the family. We were honored that they took such special care of us. Lastly, we ate at Ding Tai Fung again...it was just too good to pass up. Overall, this was an amazing day full of amazing memories.
